FossMuse

FossMuse is an open-source personal-assistant project based on Hermes Agent. The Hermes source checkout is in hermes-agent. The installable profile is fossmuse-profile, licensed under MIT; it adds FossMuse branding, a native Hermes skin, a context-aware persona, and a general multi-step follow-through skill. A focused Hermes runtime change supports task-level desktop authorization while preserving Hermes' other runtime and learning features. Hermes source retains its upstream license.

The computer-use design relies on general desktop controls and software already available on the host. FossMuse does not add a Taildrop/Tailscale-specific transfer implementation; the assistant should discover a suitable route from the user's goal and observed environment, then verify the handoff. The current build includes a Hermes runtime change, so use the Hermes checkout's CLI rather than a separately installed upstream executable.

Quick start

From the FossMuse workspace root, prepare an isolated runtime and install the profile with the Hermes source checkout:

For a self-hosted setup, configure a local model such as Ollama in fossmuse model; follow the local Ollama guide. You can also choose another Hermes provider, but FossMuse does not depend on a paid inference or assistant service. For local desktop perception, choose a vision-capable local model; a text-only model may use an available auxiliary vision provider for screenshots. The profile guide explains the accessibility-only option. Keep this shell activated while using FossMuse so the checkout's runtime changes are active. The fossmuse command selects this profile; use hermes -p <profile> for other profiles.
